Original Char Dham

As defined by the Indian philosopher Adi Shankaracharya, the original Char Dham – Badrinath, Dwarka, Puri, & Rameshwaram – consists of 3 Vaishnavite (belonging to Lord Vishnu) and 1 Shaivite (belonging to Lord Shiva) pilgrimages.

1. Badrinath

Badri refers to a berry that was apparently said to grow abundantly in the area and nath refers to LORD.According to legend Shankar discovered a black stone image of Lord Badrinarayan made of saligram stone in the Alakananda river

2.Rameshwaram

Adorning the tip of the Indian Penisula, Rameswaram is located in Tamil Nadu. The telltales quote this place to be the very spot from where the great Lord Ram built a setu (Ramsetu) to reach Lanka, where Ravana has kept his wife Goddess Sita after the abduction. The place also homes an enormous temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, the Ramanatha Swamy Temple. The temple enshrines one of the twelve majestic Jyotirlingas. These jyotirlingas are revered to be the manifestation of Lord Shiva and originated from his different body parts. It is said that the visit of Banaras (Varanasi) is not complete without visiting Rameswaram. The religious importance of Rameswaram is great among Hindus.

3. Puri

Located on the right bank of the Gomti River, Dwarka is a revered Hindu Pilgrim. It is perched on the top of Okhamandal Peninsula and is one of the seven most religious places of India. The city is the celebrated as the Kingdom of Lord Krishna and holds a distinct place in the history of the incredible miracles that Lord Krishna performed at this place. The Dwarkadhish Temple is the most revered Krishna temple in India and every year thousands of pilgrims come to visit this auspicious place.

4. Dwarka

The holiest of the sights in Hindu religion, Badrinath is situated in Northern region of India. The telltales link the name “Badri” with berry which is a primary produce of this area and “nath” meaning “Lord of”. The main temple complex is breathtakingly beautiful. Though it has been constantly damaged and repaired after earthquakes, the splendor of the architectural marvel is a sight to behold. The devotees come all the way walking through the snow clad mountains to visit the holy site and pray for their near and dear ones. The temple enshrines a back idol of the deity, that was found in the Alaknanda River.
